Paige-ala!!! I completly agree with you about RENT. It was amazingful. Though I've never seen the movie, I know the play is probably better because everything is better live. I'm still gonna steal the movie from Emmie though. And the music is definelty the best part about it. (Wicked music is the shiz too!!!) I hope you are having fun in DC!!!

Sarah I agree with you. The best career for you in theatre would definetly be an actress. There's nothing better for you. You are always able to be your character no matter whos watching or whats going on anywhere else. I truly admire that about you. You are an amazing person and actor and I will definetly miss you this summer. I hope you do grow up to be an actress. =)

Theatrical Careers

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Set_construction
If I were to choose a career in theatre it would be acting or on set construction. I learned basically the same thing through first hand experience as through the web resource. Acting is tougher than it looks, you have to be able to put it all out there and be able to laugh at yourself. Getting fully into character really pays off. Set construction is also tough, but it's fun. You get to design where the characters are and how they are able to act within their set. It has to functional for the actors and be able to portray where they are and what they are doing. There are probably college courses with which you may need to take to be able to do these careers to the best of your ability.
The History Of RENT
http://www.siteforrent.com/abouttheshow/the-history-of-rent.html
This is the actual RENT site. It tells of a very descriptive start for RENT. What I found most interesting was that the writer of RENT (Jonathan Larson) never saw his final production at an actual performance. He died the day before the first performance. Also, the time put into the show is crazy. Seven years on one production. That's dedication. So many people were involved with RENT as well. Another thing I found really interesting was that Stephen Sondheim helped with RENT by giving them advice and such. Stephen Sondheim also did Into The Woods from last year. =)

RENT

First off, I absolutely loved RENT. It was the bomb! I loved the realness of it. It wasn't just a lame play someone wrote because they were bored. It had beautiful music and an amazing cast. I think its considered a pivitol show because of all the maturity one must posses to actually watch it and understand it. Also, it is very "out of the box", most people won't write about such fragile subjects as AIDS, homelessness, drugs, and homo sexuality and being able to put a positive message in it all, that is truly a gift. I really enjoy shows that are "out of the box" because they aren't just like the same thing over and over again, they bring up real problems and are quite fun to watch.

Lisa I completly agree with you on elements of a performance. If a play is missing anything, it takes away from the show in its intirety. And on the costume and make-up thing...I haven't actually seen your costume yet, but I can't wait till everyone is in full costume. Those days are great. Whatever your costume is, I know you'll work it. Chi Fu is such and exciting character to watch. Your like all full of energy and everything. It's wonderful. The people who are on stage with you need to watch out!!!

Lu Lu, I don't think anyone has seen their make-up or even knows if they'll have make-up on either so don't feel bad. I'm pretty positive that being in costume will help, but you really don't need any help Lu Lu. You is doing amazing!!! I love watching the ancestors everyday. I ecspecially like the whole "Gone out the window? It's gone out the front door and taken the pagoda with it!" That's definelty my fave. And the acupuncturists. Thats great. Just act annoyed all the time and that shows that you don't care.
